Device disposal / recycling

By contributing to the responsible collection of electronic waste, you protect the environment and help preserve valuable raw materials. Fixas accepts phones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, smartwatches, and other small electronics — both for sale and disposal. We ensure secure data erasure in compliance with legal acts and best practices.

What we accept

  • Working and non-working phones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, smartwatches, headphones, and other small electronics.

  • Devices that we don’t buy (e.g., very old or severely damaged) are accepted for recycling or disposal in accordance with legal acts.

Preparation before handover — step by step

We aim for the process to be safe, fast, and clear. Here’s a simple guide on what to do before you bring in or send your device.

1) Backup

Back up your photos, contacts, messages, and important documents (iCloud, Google Drive, a local computer copy, or another solution). This protects you in case you need the data later.

2) Log out of all accounts and turn off Activation Lock

  • For Apple devices (iPhone/iPad/Mac), sign out of your Apple ID and turn off “Find My”. Then, perform a “Erase All Content and Settings” reset. This will make it easier for later use or resale.

  • Android / Google: Remove the Google account(s) to disable FRP (Factory Reset Protection). Instructions are provided in the official Google Help.

If you are unable to perform these steps (e.g., forgotten password or the device doesn’t turn on), bring it to our service center. We will help you perform a secure data wipe before recycling.

3) Factory reset

After removing the accounts, perform a factory reset according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This guarantees that personal data will not be accessible. For tips, refer to the manufacturers’ support pages.

4) Remove SIM cards, memory cards, and accessories.

Remove the SIM card, microSD, and any personal cases. If you have the original accessories (charger, headphones), please indicate whether you want to include them.

5) Check the condition

Add a brief description (e.g., “working, incl. charger; cracked screen; won’t turn on”). This will speed up the evaluation and help us decide what to do with it (repair / resell / recycle).

Shipping and packaging — safety requirements

  • Use a sturdy box and protective material (bubble wrap). Ensure the device is stable and doesn’t move.

  • Batteries: improperly packaged or loose lithium batteries in a box pose a risk. When shipping, you must follow the courier’s dangerous goods regulations. Lithium batteries are often shipped inside the equipment or with a special labeling and declaration procedure. Check your courier’s requirements (Lietuvos paštas, UPS, FedEx, etc.).

What we do after we receive the device

  1. Admission and visual inspection — we document the condition and accessories.

  2. Diagnostics – we check the main functions (screen, buttons, cameras, battery, connections).

  3. Data handling — if required, we securely erase the data or help the client save it.

  4. Recycling / Disposal — devices that are unsuitable for repair or resale are handed over to certified recycling partners in accordance with the requirements of the Republic of Lithuania and the EU. Residents can also use municipal waste sites or waste taxi services.

Legal and environmental aspects

Collection and management of electronic waste in Lithuania are regulated by national legislation and the EU WEEE Directive. Responsible recycling reduces raw material waste and pollution. You can find more information about official collection points and regulations on the Ministry of Environment and EPA websites.
